Today I decided to watch the remake of West Side Story because it was a hot day in DC. I’d seen the original 1961 and fell in love with the musical. I was excited when I heard they were remaking it but I also learned some of the original cast would be in it. This is still one of my favorite musicals. Although they have changed some of it but the music, singing & dancing they kept the same and the clothes were so vibrant.
I was taken by surprised when I saw the original Anita (Rita Moreno) and I know if Natalie Wood was alive she might have been in the remake. I can’t say who exactly from the original cast returned to be apart of the remake I just recognized one. The remake made me fall in love all over again with the movie. I’m glad Steven Spielberg kept as close to the original as possible which made me cry at the end because of the authenticity. I recommend everyone to see both.
