What Makes You Black

While watching The Rachel Divide on Netflix it got me to think about race and gender and what makes you determine who you are and what ethnicity you are. As I continued to watch this documentary I was intrigued because this woman Rachel Dolenzal was a white woman who decided to change her ethnicity and did. This woman grew up being a white woman with blond hair & privileged in a way that she would never be judged the way a black person is judged.

So does race really matter and is it really okay if someone decides to change their race. I see people change their sexuality all the time and no one really cares but if someone changes their race then it becomes a real issue but is it really that deep.

Have you ever wondered what makes you the race you are and is it really that easy to change with the stroke of a pen. History has shown that being a certain race means you will struggle to succeed.

As I watched the documentary I realized just how easy it was for her to change her race because all she had to say was she had a black parent and consistently tanned and we in the black community would accept it and never question because we had plenty of interracial people among us.

I will say this has taught me we all have secrets and we should never judge others for what they decide to do and this has opened the door for conversations.
